Today’s session:

40 minute progressive tempo run on Amazon Trail.
The conditions of the trail were terrible and my calf was hurting for much of it. Marshy, soft, crappy trail conditions. I ran completely off pulse, and my guidelines were to run the first 15 minutes in the low 160’s heart rate, the second 15 minutes in the low/mid 170’s, and the last 10 minutes between 181-183.
That last 10 minutes was absolutely brutal! Some days, 182 is only moderately hard, but today it felt like a marathon. I don’t think I was recovered from Tuesday yet, and some days your tempo just sucks. The time was passing so slowly, and my mind kept thinking how much it wanted to be done. I wasn’t enjoying a single minute of it, but I tried to remind myself that this was valuable mental training if nothing else.
