It was a breeze. I could have gone for 20, but 10 miles was all that was on the schedule, and I’m not in a position to be pushing the boundaries just yet. We wound through the cottonwood forest, the trail only wide enough for us to run single file. Perhaps it was because I got to dictate the pace the first 4miles, but I had just the right amount of energy, never got bored, and not one muscle felt so much as a hint of fatigue. 5 weeks. That’s how long it took to feel that way. That’s what I’m going to tell people who say running feels awful: “give it 5 weeks.”
